Alone

Alone

Many people live alone. It is hard as well as scary at times. If something happens to them, others may not know it for days. There are some services which are useful for this situation. Some of these services are-

  • Request welfare or wellness check. Wellness check services by local church/mandir, fire department, police, city, senior centers, etc.
  • Some online apps e.g.- snug safety, Iam fine, doingfine, kitestring
  • Arrangement with neighbor, friend, relative, family member. It may be a fixed time to turn on/off a light, text message, email, etc.
  • Bracelets, necklaces with alarms. There are wheelchairs with alarms. Sensors can be installed on refrigerators. If the fridge door is not opened by a certain time, it alarms
  • Private, paid checker
  • Callingcare.com is a phone check system
  • Prior setup with the police department to come for check if the power goes out as landlines do not work when the power goes out
  • Meals on the wheels people can do a wellcheck
  • Postman/woman can do a wellcheck
  • Camera use by relatives or friends
  • Home monitoring systems
  • Pay neighbor to do a wellness check

Drawbacks of these systems

  • Some of these are useless in case of memory issues
  • Some are useless if away from the person
  • If a person is unconscious, he or she may not be able to use alarm systems or apps
  • A once-a-day check is not enough. What if something happens just after the well check?
