How to deal with Bitterness
What do you do when someone is bitter towards you either occasionally or constantly? Are you aware that there are many options to deal with bitter people? Some of these options are:
-
Ignore them. Do not pay attention. Do not waste your time. Maintain distance.
-
Have insight that it is their personality and nothing personal against you.
-
Ask why are they bitter. Truthfully tell them that they are toxic and give them a chance to introspect and improve. Guide them to seek treatment.
-
Respond bitterly.
-
Confront them. Tell them that you are not going to tolerate this and they should behave in a decent way.
-
Threaten them with consequences. Actually, start taking action that includes reporting and filing a case.
-
Make it a big issue and force them to apologize. Make them take their statements back.
-
Forgive and forget, as they do not know what they are doing. They are acting based on their past experiences and the current state of mind. You stay strong and do not store it in your memory.
-
Stay calm. Say something good about them. Radiate good, positive energy and vibrations.
-
Introspect yourself honestly and contemplate why their statements feel bitter. Is there some truth in their statements that you do not like to be reminded of? Is there something in/with you that makes them bitter? Do you need to change?
What option among these you choose, depends on your proximity to those people, level of bitterness, the period of bitterness, past experiences, your dependence on those people, consequences on you and them, your tolerance level, your own state of mind, your own inner strength, etc.
