It is a common scenario that when a U.S.A. resident is planning to travel to his home country, the relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. ask for electronic or other expensive items. It becomes a weird situation, and many do not know how to handle that demand. Following are some ways to respond:
- Say yes if you think that it is an appropriate demand and you can fulfill it.
- Tell them that you can take only a certain amount of items as per customs rules, and you already have those items for others.
- Tell them that your baggage is full and there is no more space.
- Ask them to order it online and deliver it to your place.
- Ask them to pay you before you buy the items.
- Clarify the custom duty. The actual amount with the customs duty may be very high.
- Tell them that if for any reason the item malfunctions, it may not be eligible for a refund if it is outside the return window.
- Tell them that it is outside your budget.
- Tell them that something went wrong with the order, and you could not get it on time
- Simply do not respond.
