A few days back, I watched the movie “Tanhaji – The unsung warrior”.
It is a nice movie with beautiful and magnificent setups and also dialogues. --Multiple times Bhagwa word is used which is so melodious to listen. This is so unusual for Bollywood movies to say this word. --It also has Chaturanga game and that also real game, not on board. --It shows Savitri and Rajmata in powerful positions, reflecting status of women at that time.
Some non-Maratha/hindi words were used. It is either a mistake or they want to show that these words were in common use at that time and reflects effect of invasion. Some of these words are- Aailan, Shamsheer, Fateh, Aurat, Abu Saheb. Shamsheer is a Persian word, Aailan is Arabic. Aurat is urdu word.
Saif’s acting was mesmerizing. People are praising acting of Degan’s and Kelkar. In my opinion, Ajay Devgan made a fantastic movie but expressions on his face were not the best. For Shivaji Raje’s role they should have taken someone with better body built and aura on face.
Some important points are: There are traitors everywhere and in all groups. Marathas( Udhaibhan and Tanhaji) are fighting with each other. How Mughals took possession of our things and inflict atrocities instead of saying thanks. In the end Dharma wins.
Some dialogues, which I liked, are:
- Bhagwa rang ka Ailan to aasman bhi roz do bar karta hai, ek bar suryoday se pehle and ek bar suryast ke bad.
- I am blind but I also want to see freedom.
- When Parati sits in Bhagwan Shankar’s lap then it is right but when I sit in your lap then it is wrong.
- Murde ko le jate hue Jai Shri Ram bhi nahi bol sakte.
- Teri mitti jajbaat se judi hai aur meri akal pani se. Tu jaan de sakta hai aur mai jaan le sakta hun.
- Kaurav aur pandav me jeet kiski hui thi?
- Kutte ki tarah jeene se behtar hai, sher ki tarah marna.
- Jis tarah mitti ke har kan me ek pahad hota hai, har teer me ek jungle, har talwar me ek sena, usi tarah har Maratha me chupa hai ek lakh Maratha.
- Jab Shivaji Raj eke talwar chalti hai to aurto ka ghunghat aur brahmano ka janeu salamat rehta hai.
- Treaty/agreement is in Bhagwa color.
Udaibhan: Is hindu but is shown
- Ordering to cut coconut trees
- Eating meat twice, that also of crocodile or alligator.
- Wears muslim dress
- Kills his own mother
- Inflict atrocities on other marathas
- Walks on bharat’s map However, does not do anything to kamal when she refuses to marry him. In addition, he patiently waits for his yes, for many days. He does not forcefully marry or rape her. He enjoys maratha’s dancing and singing Bhawani and shankara.
Some weak points:
- Narration voice was not impactful or impressive
- Shivaji Raje does not recognize Tanhaji and his voice when he disguised as Baba. Shivaji was supposed to be very vigilant. Also Shivaji is shown to give more importance to Tanhaji’s personal family matter than to Maratha kingdom future and independence.
- So many beautiful and big boats were made in a few hrs when udaibhan’s team was crossing sardana river.
- Marathas were fighting Tanhaji, when they were bringing fake nagin. Why did not they disclose in the beginning that they are the same party?
- Kondhyana fort was located at such a height. Why no one saw Maratha team coming towards the fort.
- Udaibhan says Jai Ekling (if I remember correctly) when he was informed of Kamal’s yes.
- Tanhaji is shown to place his foot over other Maratha’s head, back and shoulder while singing the song Shankara.
- Bees only bite Mughals and spare Marathas.
- Tanhaji has jutis with him when he was dying in battle.
-
Tanhaji is showing to throw a wooden stick towards Shivaji. This is insult of a great warrior and I believe this was considered a crime at that time,no matter how close that person was to Shivaji. Also, Shivaji’s bodyguards did not jump and arrest him immediately.
I remember seeing a flag, white and blue with horizontal stripes similar to stripes in USA flag. Not sure whose flag was that.
