Naraka Chaturdashi
Naraka Chaturdashi (or Choti Diwali or Kali Chaudas) marks the second day of Diwali (Deepavali festivities). Named after Narakasura, this day is of great significance as it celebrates the end of the demon at the hands of Shri Krishna's consort Satyabhama.
People wake up early and apply aromatic oils (usually til oil) on them before taking a bath. This is said to remove all sins and impurities. They wear new clothes, offer Puja and enjoy by lighting diyas and bursting few crackers.
Prayers are offered to Dharmraj Yam.
The Mandyam Iyengar Brahmins do not celebrate the Naraka Chaturdashi in remembrance of 800 of their ancestors who were brutally massacred by Tipu Sultan in Melkote, Karnataka, on Naraka Chaturdasi.
Some people celebrate this day as Hanuman Jayanti. They recite Sundar kaand of Valmiki Ramayan.
People celebrate this day as Roop Chaudas also.
Naraka Caturdashi is also known as Choti Diwali, Roop Chaturdashi, Kali Choudas, Mahanisha or Kali Puja, and Divili Panduga.
