Many people visit Qutab Minar daily not knowing that it is a place where twenty seven Mandirs were destroyed and ornaments(Diamonds and precious stones) from deities were looted. The first mosque in India was built over one of these destroyed mandirs. You can still see carvings of Devi and Devtas, sacred animals, and Kalash etc. on pillars. All figures have been defaced as image worship is not allowed in Islam. It symbolizes the end of Chauhan dynasty and beginning of Islamic invasion in India.
Qutab Minar is located in a huge complex in Mehrauli area of Delhi. The original name of Delhi was Indraprastha. Later on it was called Yoginipuri and then Dhilli. Now people call it Delhi which is a distorted version of the sanskrit name Dhilli.
It is okay to see historical monuments but more important is to know the history. The history of Qutab Minar is full of bloodshed, betrayal, and destruction. It was built to symbolize victory of Islam and was also a place for Ajaan.
