Today I went to a Renaissance Knights chess tournament at McCormik place. There were over 400 kids there. There were different sections that divided players based on grade and rating.I was in the K-6 junior varsity group. They were five rounds and the overall tournament was 8 hours. The rounds were pretty short but the time between rounds was very long.I won 2/5 rounds.I was paired up with 6th graders almost all the rounds. They was a Connies pizza stand in which I ate from in the breaks.I also brought some books there to not get bored.During the rounds,I had to annotate, that means to write down what happened in a chess game. There was a expert you could approach and he analyzed your game moves and explained what you did right or wrong and what was the correct way to play in that scenario.Me and my mom talked to one of the organizers,Sheila Haiser. She gave us the information that Renaissnace Knights was founded 11 years back. She founded the company since her son wanted to play chess with other people so her family started Renaissance Knights. They now host tournaments and teach classes. If you win a tournament, you get to take a pic with the mayor! She is planning to invite Michelle Obama for a all-girls tournament.Renaissance Knights is partners with the Kasparov chess foundation.Renaissance Knights has many events and i am looking forward to going to them.
