Value of Education

Posted by on October 11, 2017

Education is very important. No one argues about that. Education provides limitless possibilities for anyone of any age to achieve their goals. Education is the basis for a highly intellectual life. In my generation, education is crucial, completely crucial, to making good money and landing a good job. If person A had a college degree, and person B did not, in a heartbeat any job provider would pick person A. The field of education is a brutally competitive space, where the schools you study in and the level of education you receive decides vital elements of your life. Even from a young age, kids strive to get in good selective middle and high schools. It crafts perfection out of a person, even though no one is perfect. It pushes people to get 100’s on everything. The real problem isn’t the competitiveness of education, it's the quality.

The quality of education you receive puts you at an advantage over other kids, students, and that person who you could lose your job to. America has no problem giving high quality education, making the smart even smarter. That’s only part of it. The real issue is the people that don't get into those selective schools, it's the people who go to neighborhood schools or community colleges. And while these schools might be good. The government simply doesn't have enough money to make good, quality education available to everyone. The person who gets into Harvard has an advantage over the person who goes to a community college. The gap in the standards are so tremendous that some people get left behind, forced into a life of hard work with little to show for it. Now I can't think of a solution for this problem, there simply isn't enough money to hire good teachers, and provide everyone the resources that some kids get while others don't. Education will ultimately decide your life, and the people that don't get that high quality education will end up in those blue collar jobs. And I haven’t even started about the cost of education. The cost of high quality education is so high that it instantly cuts most people off from even getting it, or being forced to take loans which will burden them for a long time. Some people say that the rich continue to get richer and the poor continue to get poorer. This is almost true for education. Almost. The good thing though is that there are opportunities for people who might not normally be able to afford high education can still get it from scholarships and student aid. And while this system isn't perfect, it helps some people. But its not necessarily enough, millions of people still end up going to bad schools, plagued by guns and drugs. Now the truth is the education worldwide WILL be unfair. Some people wont get those opportunities, some people still won't be able to afford tuition for high-end schools. And that's just how the world works.

Is education really crucial though? There are many success stories of people who have dropped out of college or highschool and still have struck it rich or became famous. The most prominent example of this is Bill Gates. He left Harvard, one of the most prestigious colleges, to found Microsoft in 1975. Another example of this is Steve Jobs, who dropped out after one semester at Reed College in Oregon. There tons of other examples of other people who dropped out of school and still became successful. But most people don't think of the people that drop out and DON'T become successful, instead they have trouble finding a job, and end up having a very not successful life. That is why I seriously recommend to not drop out of school or college. It's a pretty stupid idea, and looking at the success stories doesn't not make it apply to you. And the most likely outcome is not good. Like I said in basically all this article, education is pretty important, and not to be joked around with. Once you drop out of a college, I’m pretty sure they won't open-heartedly accept you back once you realize the mistake you made. Dropping out isn’t something reversible, it's a life decision that you have to think about.

A phrase that has been around for quite some time is “Education is the key to success.” This quote isn’t necessarily true. Education is of course important, but a university or formal education isn’t completely crucial. A lot of people think that if you work hard enough, have the right set of social skills. And experience can take a person far in life. Sitting around with a masters degree and not working won’t do anything to help you. The quote “Education is the key to success,” doesn’t have to be getting into good colleges. It could refer to the education that you gain from experiences and life in general. Whatever path you take, don’t keep switching. You should stay on a path until you see that path is wrong. I dont have much more to say on this topic, so I’ll give my personal opinion.

I personally believe that people should always get a formal education, since it helps people make informed decision and know what they are doing. It gives you a different view of the world and gives people knowledge of the world that they live in.
